Evgeny Paton (1870–1953) was a Ukrainian and Soviet engineer of Ukrainian descent who established the E. O. Paton Electric Welding Institute in Kyiv. A monument to Evgeny Paton has been erected on the square on the back of the main building of the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. It was unveiled on June 21, 2002. The location is not accidental, as the №2 auditorium is located nearby, where Evgeny Oskarovych founded the first bridge department in our country.
