House No.8 on Andriivskyi Uzviz is a vivid example of private housing of the middle strata of the population. It is an architectural monument.
Since 1857 there was a brothel in the estate, which was kept by Vera Genyukova. The establishment was known in the city and was in great demand. In 1881, the estate was purchased by Vasyl Chernyavsky, a Podil jeweler. Instead of wooden buildings, the new owner built stone ones - a complex of two dwelling houses of 1885 and 1902, facing the red line of the street, and service wings. In 1905, ethnographer and choral conductor Oleksandr Koshyts rented accommodation here. In Soviet times the house was divided into communal apartments. Since 1988 the building has housed the Koleso Theater.
The two-storey brick house in the Neo-Renaissance style adjacent to building No.10 is of architectural and artistic value. The favorable location on the relief of the Kiev mountains, the plasticity of the objects and the configuration of the courtyard, as well as of the facade The house and its interior have been preserved up to the present time.
