Upper Lavra is the territory of the so-called of the "new" monastery, in contrast to the "old" cave monastery, located on the lower Lavra's territory. The architectural ensemble on the upper territory was formed in the 11th-20th centuries, and the first building here was the Assumption Cathedral. Since 1922, the National Historical and Cultural Reserve has been located on the Upper Lavra.
