The upper terrace on the territory of the Far Caves of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, on which the Church of the Nativity of the Virgin with a bell tower and a cemetery is located, is fortified from the north by a gallery with a retaining wall. This is the original engineering building in 1744.
In 1846, the gallery was rebuilt into monastic cells. In 1972-77 it was restored in its original form. In the 2000s, a refectory for pilgrims was equipped in the gallery.
Single-tier, brick, in terms of plan, the building is a rectangle elongated in the latitudinal direction, covered with a shed roof with a tin roof. Niches are rhythmically arranged in the southern wall of the gallery in the interior. It is a retaining wall of the terrace, to which a staircase leads from below. The central part of the building is decorated with a two-tier, brick, rectangular tower with a tented tin roof topped with a cross on a ball.
