A memorial plaque to Marcel Thiry

Marcel Thiry (1897-1977) is a Belgian writer, poet, novelist, veteran of the First World War, a member of the Belgian armored division stationed in Western Ukraine and Kyiv in 1916-1918. Author of the work "Passage in Kyiv". This autobiographical story tells about a Belgian soldier who ended up in Kyiv, returning from the front of the First World War. A bronze plaque to Marcel Thiry was installed on the wall of the Mykhailivskyi Zolotoverkhi Monastery (by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) on the initiative of the NGO "Kyiv. Strategy 2025" with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of Belgium in Ukraine, which timed this event to the 100th anniversary of the First World War. As part of the events, a presentation of the Ukrainian translation of the above-mentioned work by Tiri took place. The unveiled of the memorial took place on February 11, 2016.
