St. Catherine's Lutheran church in Kyiv is located in the city center, near the Presidential Administration building and a few steps away from the famous Kyiv mansion - "House of the Weeping Widow".
The project of St. Catherine's Church was developed by the architect Ivan Strom, who was a Lutheran by faith. Kyiv architect Pavlo Shleifer also took part in the construction. Work on the church, decorated in the Gothic and pseudo-Gothic styles, was completed in 1857. It was consecrated on August 4/16. Historians of that time spoke positively about the appearance of the kirkha, in particular, its elegance and special lightness were noted.
After 1938 it was reformed into the Club of Fighting Atheists, later as fuel storage for the Ministry of Culture and from 1972 on it was used as directorate and storage for the Museum for Rural Architecture and Traditional Customs. It was returned to the Lutheran Church only in 1998.
In the bright and almost undecorated room of the church, the open book on the stand and the inscription on the blood-red glass attract special attention - this is a place of memory of the members of the Lutheran community who died a violent death during the Soviet regime. The book of memory contains about 60 names of martyrs for the faith.
In 2011, a sculpture named "Sorrowful Angel" was installed to the left of the entrance to the temple. It unveiled was dedicated to the 70th anniversary of the deportation of Germans from Ukraine.
