Kyiv is the hometown of the writer and physician Mykhailo Bulgakov (1891-1940). On June 2, 2017, a memorial plaque to Mikhail Bulgakov was unveiled on the facade of the building of the former First Kyiv Gymnasium - its future writer graduated in 1909.
