A monument to Ihor Sikorsky was erected near the international terminal "A" of the "Kyiv" airport in Zhulyany, which is named after the aircraft designer.
Igor Sikorsky is a world-famous aircraft designer, the inventor of the world's first helicopter. Although Sikorsky lived and worked in the USA for most of his life, he assembled and launched the first models of the aircraft in the yard of his parents' house on Yaroslaviv Val Street in Kyiv.
The bronze monument to Sikorsky in Zhulyany was unveiled on August 31, 2019. It is a 7-meter figure of a dreamy young man standing on a hemisphere with a stylized world map and holding his invention in his left hand. The prototype of the helicopter is assembled from about twenty parts, and the monument itself - from half a thousand elements. The smallest are the letters of the signature, made in the form of blades. By design, Sikorsky is reaching for his dream, as if tearing himself off the ground.
