The building at 8 Yaroslavska Street is a model of residential construction in Podol at the end of the 19th century. It was built according to the project of the Kyiv architect Pavlo Sparro, who was also the architect of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. In the decoration of the facade of the house, he used the so-called brick style, which he often used in his works.
Since 1880, the building was owned by A. Lunev, a merchant of the 2nd guild. In the early 1890s, the building was leased from the Jewish community, which in 1895 moved to the newly built synagogue on the 29 Shchekavitska street, known as the "Rosenberg Synagogue".
The two-story brick house is rectangular in plan. The composition of the front facade is asymmetrical. The side parts with the entrance on the right and the gate on the left are highlighted by shaped attics. There are three showcases on the first floor, and six windows on the second floor. An accent element in the design of the facade is an arcature frieze under the crown cornice.
For several years, the old house at Yaroslavska 8 has been undergoing restoration, but the naked eye can see that the building is simply collapsing - there is no roof, the windows are covered with metal sheets or there are none at all, and there is a garbage dump in front of the main facade. The presence of a protective net, which is used during the restoration, is symbolic - it resembles a curtain at the end of the performance... unfortunately, most likely, another architectural old-timer will disappear into oblivion.
