Metropolitan Petro Mohyla (1596 (1597) - 1647) - a great educational and ecclesiastical figure, one of the founders of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy - a prominent center of higher education, science and Christian piety in Ukraine and throughout Eastern Europe XVII-XVIII centuries .A bronze memorial plaque to Petro Mohyla has been erected on the old building of the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. It was unveiled in 1997 to mark the 400th anniversary of his birth.
