Monument to Vikenty Khvoyka in Kyiv

Vikentiy Khvoyka (1850-1914) - archaeologist, author of more than 200 publications. In the 1890s, he began to conduct archaeological excavations, in particular, in Kyiv. In 1893-1903, he conducted research on the late Paleolithic Kyrylivska archeological site, in 1907-1914 - on Starokyivska Hill, in particular, the foundations of the princely palace of the times of Kyivan Rus’. In 1986, he discovered the first monuments of the Trypillia culture (4-3 thousand BC) in the Middle Dnipro region.

One of the founders of the Kyiv City Museum of Antiquities and Arts. In his apartment on Ihorivska Street, the scientist opened a museum of antiquities for the general public. A memorial plaque was installed on the facade of the house in 1967.

In 2009, a monument to Vikenty Khvoyka was erected in the Trypillia Culture Park on the territory of the International Academy of Personnel Management. It is a bronze bust of an archaeologist mounted on a concrete tetrahedral pedestal. The monument is a manifestation of respect and appreciation of his work.
