Monument to Juliusz Słowacki in Kyiv

Juliusz Slovacki (1809 – 1849) – Polish poet and playwright; is considered one of the greatest Polish poets of the Romantic era along with Adam Mickiewicz and Zygmunt Krasinski. Słowacki recreates many events from the history of Ukraine.

A monument to Juliusz Słowacki in Kyiv was erected next to the catholic church of St. Nicholas, which is not far from the city center. The solemn opening ceremony of the monument took place on September 20, 2012. It was devoted to the state visit to Ukraine of the President of Poland Bronisław Komorowski.

The sculpture of Yu. Slovacky was made in Poland, namely at the Center of Polish Sculpture in Oronsk, and was delivered to Ukraine in 2009 on the occasion of the 200th anniversary of the poet's birth.
