Monument to Petro Nesterov in the Museum of Aviation

The monument to Petro Nesterov at the Aviation Museum was unveiled on October 4, 2013, to the 100th anniversary of the Nesterov's "dead loop". It is a bust mounted on a two-meter granite pedestal. This is one of three Kyiv monuments to the legendary pilot.

Petro Nesterov (1887-1914) - military pilot, founder of aerobatics. In 1913, he was appointed the chief of the 11th Corps Aviation Detachment of the 3rd Kyiv Air Squadron, which was based at the Syretsky Military Airfield. Studied at the Kyiv Aeronautical Society, collaborated with the aviation club at the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. Developed and implemented the use of rolls in flight practice, performed a number of figures for the first time. On August 27, 1913, the "Newpor-4" aircraft made a closed curve ("dead loop") in the vertical plane over the Syretsky airfield for the first time in the world, which was called "Nesterov's loop". He died in 1914, during the First World War, for the first time used an aerial ram against an Austrian plane over the town of Zhovkva in the Lviv Region. He was buried at the Askoldova grave in Kyiv, in 1937 the gunpowder was reburied at the Lukyanivske cemetery.
