Mikhail Panikovsky is one of the main protagonists of Ilf and Petrov's novel The Golden Calf, a collective image of a small-town swindler. According to the work, M.Panikovsky, under the guise of a blind tramp, earned money by pickpocketing from passers-by, and the place of his "work" was the horn of Prorizna and Khreshchatyk. Monument to Mikhail Panikovsky has been erected in a small square at the beginning of Prorizna Street, a few steps from Khreshchatyk. It was unveiled on May 31, 1998.
