The gate was built in a wall system upon the project of the architect J.G. Schadel as the western gate to the territory of St. Sophia monastery, the main entrance to the yard of the Metropolitan’s house.
The main decorations of the gate are its magnificent moldings that densely fill the fronton and tympanum over the passage. Above the arch is the Metropolitan Raphail (Zaborovskyi) family coat of arms – a burning heart framed by palm branches.
The gate is one of the best Ukrainian Baroque works of art due to its architectural and artistic solution.
