Saint Nestor was born in the middle of the 11th century. As a seventeen-year-old young man, he came to the Pechersk monastery, where he was received by the abbot himself - saint Theodosius. Nestor's obedience was chronicles. He deeply valued true knowledge combined with humility and repentance. The main feat of his life was the writing of "Tales of Bygone Years", which remains the greatest monument of Slavic culture. Saint Nestor used a wide range of sources: previous chronicles, monastery manuscripts, Byzantine chronicles, stories of merchants, warriors and travelers. The chronicler also compiled the biographies of martyrs Borys and Hleb, Venerable Theodosius, Abbot of the Caves. The immortal relics of the ascetic rest in the Near Lavra Caves, next to Saint Eustratius. Nestor is the patron saint of all who teach and study, historians, scientists and journalists. On the day of his memory - November 9 - the day of Ukrainian writing and language is celebrated.
A memorial plaque to St. Nestor has been installed on the Lavra, and a monument is located opposite the monastery.
