Tarasa Shevchenka Lane runs from Maidan Nezalezhnosti to Mykhailivskyi Lane, within the southern part of the ancient "City of Yaroslav". First mentioned in 1834, it has had its modern name since 1925. The oldest building is the only wooden house on the street No. 8A, built in 1835. It is a historical monument of national significance - in 1846-47, the outstanding writer, artist and social activist Taras Shevchenko lived there. Shevchenka Lane is one of the narrowest streets in Kyiv. Here, the impression of a closed architectural space is created, which makes the street large-scale for pedestrians.
