Vozdvyzhenka is a residential microdistrict in the historical area of Gonchari-Kozhemyaky on Podil in Kyiv.
Settlement and handicraft and industrial development of Gonchary-Kozhemyaky began no earlier than the 12th century. The inhabitants of the tract were artisans, in particular, potters were the first to settle in this area, a little later - blacksmiths, masons, leather workers, furriers. Intensive development and handicraft specialization of the region, which determined the names of historical places here, falls on the late Middle Ages: the name Kozhemyaky appears from the 17th century, Gonchari and Degtyari - from the 18th. By the 19th century, the area was filled not so much with residential buildings as with craft workshops, gardens and orchards, the owners of which lived in Podil. At that time, a network of main routes was already formed, which have survived to this day. According to the data of 1854, there were 100 houses.
Since the mid-1970s, a few residents of Gonchari-Kozhemyaky began to be resettled due to the accident rate of houses. The old building was almost completely demolished in the 1980s. At the same time, the idea arose to equip the deserted tract. The first brick of the Vozdvyzhenka microdistrict was laid in 2001, and two years later construction began, which is still ongoing.
The main thoroughfare of the microdistrict is Vozdvyzhenska Street. The name of the street that gave the name to the entire microdistrict comes from the Holy Cross Church (Vozdvyzhenska church) of the 19th century, built at the expense of artisans. There are also Goncharna, Degtyarna and Kozhemyatska streets.
