Aviation Pioneers Park is one of the newest green spaces on the campus of the National Technical University of Ukraine "Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute." It was established in 2020–2021 with the participation of students, faculty members, staff, and alumni. As part of the landscaping project, more than 230 trees were planted here, including blue spruces, Freeman maples, London plane trees, Japanese cherry trees (sakura), Jacquemont birches, and silver birches.
The park's name reflects the site's historical significance. At the beginning of the 20th century, the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute's automobile and aviation workshops were located here, where students and professors designed and tested some of the first airplanes. This is where the history of Ukrainian aviation began, and where future world-renowned aircraft designers, including Igor Sikorsky, took their first steps in aviation engineering. In 2023, the sculptural composition "To the Aviators of KPI" was unveiled in the center of the park, honoring the first pioneers of flight and generations of engineers who shaped Ukraine's aviation heritage.
Today, Aviation Pioneers Park is not only a peaceful recreational area but also a symbol of the connection between history, science, and innovation. It serves as a reminder of Kyiv Polytechnic's outstanding contribution to the development of global aviation and continues to inspire new generations of students to pursue engineering and technological achievements.
