Volodymyrska Hill is a park in the historic part of Kyiv and a monument of landscape art of national importance.
In 1853, a monument to Kyivan Prince Volodymyr the Great was erected on the lower terrace of the hill, which became the compositional center of the park. By 1895, the terraces had been completed, the slopes, which were constantly being destroyed by landslides, had been planned and strengthened, the main alleys and brick-paved serpentine paths had been laid, and landscaping had been carried out. In 1905, the upper terrace of the park was connected to Podil by a funicular. In the 2010s, the park on Volodymyrska Hill was restored and renovated, and new facilities were added: two fountains and a monument to the Italian poet Dante Alighieri.
Volodymyrska Hill Park is characterized by a unique compositional structure due to the peculiarities of the natural landscape. It is home to 93 species and 10 forms of trees and shrubs. There are several gazebos in the park: a large one installed in 1870, a smaller one built in 1897-1898, and a new one “in the old style”. The upper terrace, which is 118 meters high, offers a view of the picturesque open spaces with the buildings of Podil, Obolon, Vyshhorod, the left bank of Kyiv, and the panorama of the Dnipro River with a number of islands and parks.
