Oleksandr Omelchenko (1938—2021) - statesman and politician, head of KMDA in 1996—2006 and mayor of Kyiv in 1999—2006, Hero of Ukraine.
During the years of Oleksandr Omelchenko's mayorship, 8 metro stations were opened, artesian water pumps were installed throughout the city. The restoration of churches important for the capital also took place: the Assumption Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, the St. Michael's Cathedral of the Golden-Domed Monastery, the Churches of the Nativity of Christ and the Assumption of the Virgin in Podil.
The opening of the tombstone on the grave of Oleksandr Omelchenko at the Baikove Cemetery took place on May 14, 2024. The ceremony was held in the presence of relatives and friends of Oleksandr Oleksandrovych, Mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko, current and former politicians, public representatives, and others.
The grave of the mayor is located near the burial place of the first President of Ukraine, Leonid Kravchuk.
