
Oleksandr Kovalov (1915-1991) was a sculptor, People's Artist of the USSR. He created monuments to poet Alexander Pushkin in Kyiv and New York, composer Mykola Lysenko in Kyiv, writer Mykola Hohol in the village of Hoholeve, Poltava region, a memorial plaque to composer Lev Revutsky in Kyiv, and numerous sculptural portraits and memorials. He was awarded the Taras Shevchenko State Prize of the Ukrainian SSR.
A memorial plaque to Oleksandr Kovalov is installed on the facade of the building where the sculptor lived and worked in 1950-1991. Today, his apartment No. 24 is a memorial workshop.
