
Petro Buiko (1895-1943) was an obstetrician-gynecologist, professor, and doctor of medical sciences. In 1922, he graduated from the Kyiv Medical Institute, and from 1933 he was the director of the Kyiv Okhmatdyt Institute. His scientific work is devoted to the prevention and treatment of perineal tears during childbirth, as well as the treatment of vesicovaginal fistulas. During the German-Soviet war, he participated in the partisan movement and organized the medical service of the Soviet partisan movement in the Fastiv region. He was burned alive by the Nazis in the village of Yaroshivka, Kyiv region. Hero of the Soviet Union (posthumously). A street in the Holosiivskyi district of Kyiv was named in his honor.
In 1936-1941, the professor lived in the house №21/12 on the modern Lyuteranska Street. The memorial plaque to Petro Buiko is installed on the facade of the house on the side of Bankova Street, opposite the building of the Presidential Office.
