Installation "Looking into the Past" in Babi Yar, in memory of the Kurenivka mudslide

Installation "Looking into the Past" in Babi Yar, in memory of the Kurenivka mudslide

The installation is installed on a dam, the breach of which on March 13, 1961 caused the Kurenivka mudslide.

To get clay for one brick, you need 600 ml of water. After that, it becomes pulp - dead water. The aquarium at the top of the installation contains 600 liters of pulp, which would be needed to create all the bricks in its base. More than a hundred bricks from different factories have been collected here, from which Kyiv was built over the past two centuries. The oldest bricks are from the 1840s, the newest ones are from the 1960s. Here there are bricks from local factories, from the waste products of which the pulp was formed.

In the lenses - footage of the chronicle from the documentary project "Babi Yar. Context".

The opening of the installation took place on the eve of the 60th anniversary of the Kurenivka mudslide - March 12, 2021.
