Konstantin Ushinsky (1824-1871) was an educator, founder of scientific pedagogy and public school in the Russian Empire, author of works on the theory and history of pedagogy, and textbooks for primary school. In his pedagogical system, an important place was occupied by the doctrine of the purpose of education, which he defined as preparing a person for life and work. From 1870 he lived in Kyiv in a house on Tarasivska Street (not preserved) near Kyiv University. According to his will, he was buried in the cemetery of the Vydubytskyi Monastery.
A monument to Konstantin Ushynsky was erected in the eponymous park in Chokolovka. It was unveiled in 1974, on the 150th anniversary of the teacher's birth. It was created on the initiative of the Pedagogical Society of the Ukrainian SSR.
The monument is a bronze bust of the teacher, mounted on a granite pedestal. The features of his appearance are carefully recreated: a short, thick, broad beard, long wavy hair, furrowed eyebrows, concentrated gaze, and tightly compressed lips. Realistic plasticity, clear frontal composition and expressive cut of the bust give the monument artistic expressiveness and convincing.
