Monument to St. Basil the Great is erected in front of the church in this Greek Catholic monastery of St. Basil near Lvivska Ploshcha.
Basil the Great (c. 330-379) was a church writer and theologian. Through inspired word, prayer, and holy life, he eradicated heretical teachings that distorted the Christian faith. The archbishop used his fortune to establish in the diocese centers of social care for the poor and destitute: orphanages, orphanages and almshouses. The saint wrote many theological works, composed the Divine Liturgy, he is the co-author of the monastic statutes, the founder of monasteries.
The sculptural composition in honor of St. Basil was invented by architect Larysa Skoryk during the construction of the temple (1998 - 2002). The monument was created by sculptor Zinoviy Fedyk. The opening and consecration of the monument took place on January 16, 2011.
The composition is a figure of a saint with bowed head. In one hand the saint holds a Bible, with the other hand he blesses. On the sides of the figure of the saint are 8 scenes from the life of St. Basil the Great - birth, baptism, consecration as a bishop, expulsion of a demon from a man, liberation of a man from a demon, death, burial, transfer of relics.
