Clement of Ohrid (840-916) was a Christian saint, bishop, and disciple of the Equal-to-the-Apostles Cyril and Methodius, who continued their work of enlightening the Slavic peoples. He lived in the city of Ohrid (at the time of his life, the city was on the territory of Bulgaria, now North Macedonia), where he founded a school for translating church books from Greek into Slavic. Many churches have been built in honor of this saint in Bulgaria and North Macedonia.
The monument to Clement of Ohrid was erected on the territory of the Far Caves in the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a few steps from the monument to SS Cyril and Methodius. The monument was erected as a gift from the Macedonian people with the support of the Embassy of North Macedonia in Ukraine. The monument, which stands approximately 2.5 meters high, is a life-size bronze figure of St. Clement, mounted on a red granite pedestal. The bishop holds a book in his right hand, symbolizing his teaching and educational activities.
The monument was consecrated and unveiled on November 4, 2018.
