Valery Lobanovsky (1939-2002) - football player, coach, Hero of Ukraine.As a footballer he played for Dynamo Kyiv, Chornomorets Odessa, Shakhtar Donetsk and the USSR national team; became the champion of the USSR and the owner of the USSR Cup. As a head coach he worked in Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk, Dynamo Kyiv, national teams of the USSR, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and Ukraine. Under his leadership, Dynamo won eight USSR championships, two European Cup Winners' Cups and the UEFA Super Cup, five Ukrainian championships and three Ukrainian Cups; The Soviet national team won second place at the European Championships and third place at the Olympics. UEFA included him in the list of the top ten coaches in European football. One of the capital's avenues, the home stadium of FC Dynamo, was named after the legendary coach.
Valery Lobanovsky died on May 13, 2002. On May 16, he was buried at the Baikove cemetery. On the anniversary of the death, a monument was opened on the grave.
