Monument to the actor Mykola Yakovchenko

Monument to the actor Mykola Yakovchenko

The monument to Mykola Yakovchenko is located in the very center of Kyiv - in the square in front of the Ivan Franko Theater. It was in this theater that Mykola Fedorovych (1900-1974) played many different roles for over forty years, and he lived in a neighboring house at 2/1 Olhynska St. In total, the actor starred in sixty films. Most of his roles are comedic.

Yakovchenko's monument was installed instead of one of the wooden benches. The artist is depicted exactly as he was, as he was known and seen by the people of Kyiv, his actor friends, writers and artists. The authors emphasized the attention to the smallest details of clothing - buttons and "crab" sandals, the characteristic pose and facial expression of Mykola Fedorovych. The naturalness of placing the sculpture in the space of the square gives it a special appeal. The actor was immortalized together with his pet – a dachshund nicknamed Fan-fan.

The monument was erected for the 100th anniversary of the beloved actor's birthday in 2000.

Authors: Volodymyr and Oleksiy Chepelika, Volodymyr Skulskyi.
