Nikolai Vatutin (1901-1944) was a Soviet military commander, army general. Before World War II, he was chief of staff of the Kyiv Military District. The troops under Vatutin's command took part in the liberation of Kyiv and Right Bank Ukraine.
The monument to Nikolai Vatutin in Kyiv is a tombstone above his grave in Mariinsky Park, next to the Verkhovna Rada building. Opened on January 25, 1948. In accordance with the law on decommunization, it was dismantled on February 9, 2023.
The monument is a sculpture, 3.65 m high, set on a pedestal with a plinth, 4.5 m high. The full-length figure of N. Vatutin is carved from a block of gray granite. The plinth, which has the shape of a truncated pyramid, are made of blocks of black labradorite.
