Freezing rain is a rare atmospheric phenomenon caused by temperature inversion: the air near the ground is cold, while above it there is a layer of warm air. Snowflakes melt in the warm layer, turning into drops that supercool in the cold air below but do not freeze completely. Falling to the ground, they instantly cover everything with an icy crust. Despite the danger, freezing rain creates incredibly beautiful landscapes — branches look as if they are covered in glass glaze.
