Taras Shevchenko (1814 – 1861), also known as Kobzar, was a Ukrainian poet, writer, artist, public figure, folklorist and ethnographer. His work is closely related to Kyiv. In the Ukrainian capital, a boulevard, a street and an alley, a national university and an opera house, a park, a metro station, etc. are named after him.
