Water-holy kivorium in the square in front of the Far Caves of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra was built in 1896-1897 according to the project of the architect Volodymyr Nikolayev. Works on the manufacture and installation of the kivorium were carried out in the mechanical workshop of J. Gerstof in Kyiv. Master Rozovetskyi made a nickel-plated copper cross with a bullet. In 1899, the area around the kivorium was paved. In 1971 and the beginning of the 1990s, repair and restoration works were carried out on the building.
The kivorium, square in plan, has a four-sloped bath-shaped roof, which rests on four cast-iron columns on cylindrical pedestals. Openwork wrought iron bars are placed between the columns. The building is crowned by a gilded cross, and its roof is decorated with zinc scales imitating shingles. The decorative effect is enhanced by the use of gilding on a black background. A drinking fountain is installed under the kivorium in the center of the site.
Another kivorium in the Lavra was installed in 1896 next to the Great Bell Tower.
