The Wave Bridge on Obolon connects the embankment near Natalka Park and Obolonsky Island. It creates a tourist ring route around the bay that will connect the promenade, the park and the new recreation area on the island.
According to the design, the new bridge has the appearance of waves that "grow" towards the center and "decline" towards the edges of the structure. It is equipped with dynamic lighting. According to the project, the overpass rests on four supports, two of which are located in the channel. The author of the project is the architect Andriy Mirgorodsky, who had previously designed a bicycle-pedestrian “glass” bridge over Volodymyrsky Descent.
Work began in 2021. About 300 tons of metal for the bridge were produced at Azovstal. They managed to make it and take it out of the plant in anticipation of a full-scale invasion. By the beginning of 2023, three bridge supports have been installed and the installation of the fourth has begun. For the first time, residents of the capital were able to walk across the new bridge on May 24, 2024.
